Zvernec Monastery

History:

Zvernec Monastery was abandoned through the Communist period in Albania, but its significant function in the community was restored quickly after its collapse. Named after St. Mary, every August 15th, locals and others begin their pilgrimage to the monastery to glorify the woman’s birthday who gave birth to Christ.

The monastery is a haven of harmony and is quite well preserved, considering its about 600 years old. The surroundings are awesome, a natural reserve with a lake, and the monastery is on an isle on this lake. The monastery and the bridge to the island are charming and scenic and worth seeing it.

Zvernec Monastery is an essential object of significant cultural and religious value. Its construction is thought to have occurred between the 12th and 13th centuries and boasts the Byzantine era’s architecture. To reach the monastery, you follow the beautiful bridge that connects the island with the land, stretching over the water. The monastery of Zvernec is a significant cultural monument on Zvernec Island in the Narta Lagoon. In the 13th century, the Byzantine church was a spiritual oasis for Christians in the area.
