The “Postbllok” memorial is a work built by former political prisoner and intellectual Fatos Lubonja and artist Ardian Isufi.
Postbllok is a monumental work with the aim of remembering and not forgetting the crimes and suffering caused by the communist dictatorship in Albania. The Postbllok installation was inaugurated on March 26, 2013 on the Boulevard “Dëşmorët e Kombit” in Tirana.
The Postblock installation is located near the statue of Ismail Qemali, near the villas of the former Communist Block, in the flower garden to the right of the former villa of Mehmet Shehu.
The Postbllok monument consists of three different objects. From some concrete pillars taken from the Spaçi Prison, known as the Albanian “Auzhvici”, where Fatos Lubonja himself spent part of his life as a political prisoner. The concrete pillars that served as reinforcement in the galleries of Spaçi, in which the prisoners worked, are lined up one after the other.
The second object is a bunker, which is the true symbol of the communist dictatorship of Schiphol.
The last object is a piece of the Berlin Wall. Fragments of the Berlin Wall symbolize the country’s isolation from the rest of the world. The piece of wall is a gift from the City Hall of the German capital to the City Hall of Tirana.
