History
The Dormition Church of Saint Mary is located in the Sarka neighborhood and is the largest preserved church in Voskopoja. It is a three-aisled basilica, with a nave, a narthex on the west side, which was destroyed during World War II, and a nave on the south side, which was destroyed by the earthquake of 1960. Based on the donor’s inscription, the church’s frescoes were painted by Teodor Anagnosti and Steriani from the village of Agrafa, in 1712.
The icon inscriptions introduce us to another iconographic painter, Kostandin Jeromonahun. Old photos and preserved traces show the existence of a complex of buildings with a social character. Nest to the bell tower must have been the seat of the temporary residence of the metropolitans. On the southern side of the courtyard was the chapel of saints Kozma and Damianoi, while next to the church, on its northern side, there is the small shrine of Saint Marena. In 1887, the bell was added to the church, built by craftsmen Niko, Koli and Anastas Veria.
