This is a historical square, the main one in Gjirokastër and is located on the Eastern side of the Bazaar. It received this name in honor of the revolutionary figures Cerciz Topulli, who is a national hero. He was born in Gjirokastër in 1880 and fought against the Ottoman wars at the beginning of the 20th century. Cerciz, together with his brothers Bajo, killed Bimbash on February 25, 1908. After the declaration of the Independence of Albania in 1912, Cerciz and his mens fought to protect the new territory from the invaders.
He was killed in Shkodër fighting with the Montenegrin forces. In Gjirokastër, Cercizi is compared to the revolutionary commander Che Guevarra, not only for his bravery but also for his looks. You can buy a lot of souvenirs with the image of Cerciz in the old bazaar.
